The Lugana DOC is I Frati's best known wine and that of which they are most proud. Produced from their native Turbiana grape variety, it is particularly designed to be enjoyed as it ages, expressing the best part of itself many years after bottling.
As a young wine it is fresh and linear, posessing finesse and elegance with delicate notes of white flowers, balsamic notes and hints of apricot. Time allows it to evolve the mineral notes and complexity with hints of iodine, spices and candied fruit. On the palate it is a full, savoury wine with an exuberant acidity.
In its youth it is best served at a temperature of around 10 degrees, with delicate appetizers. It accompanies fish dishes well.
The Ca’ dei Frati company has existed since 1782, as confirmed by a document that refers to “a house with a cellar located in Lugana in the Sirmione district known as the place of the Friars”. In 1939, the son of a wine grower from Verona moved to the house, immediately realising the area’s potential for vine cultivation.
